Switzerland's Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) has approved the country's first exchange-traded fund investing directly in Bitcoin and available to retail investors. Classified under Swiss law as an alternative investment fund with specific risks, the ETF received an exemption from standard diversification requirements, reflecting Bitcoin's established trading history and liquidity. The approval introduces additional safeguards, including measures to reduce custody and operational risks, enhanced disclosure requirements and suitability assessments under Switzerland's Financial Services Act.
