State Street Files Two Covered-Call ETFs Tied to S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100

State Street has filed for two equity income ETFs combining index-like stock exposure with systematic call writing. The State Street US Equity Premium Yield ETF would build a portfolio designed to behave similarly to the S&P 500, while the State Street Nasdaq Equity Premium Yield ETF would target characteristics of the Nasdaq-100. Both funds would invest at least 80% of assets in equities and premium-producing investments, using quantitative models to construct their stock portfolios. To generate additional income, the ETFs would typically sell one- to two-month European-style index call options with strike prices above prevailing index levels. State Street would actively set strikes based on implied market risk and available option income, then roll positions before expiration. The strategies may also use futures and cash instruments for portfolio and liquidity management.
