First Trust Files for Laddered Autocallable ETF With Enhanced Upside Potential

First Trust has filed to launch the FT Vest Laddered Autocallable Barrier & Catapult ETF, an actively managed fund seeking to replicate the returns of autocallable structured notes through swaps and options. The strategy will maintain a laddered portfolio of synthetic contracts linked to the S&P 500, Dow Jones Industrial Average and Nasdaq-100. Contracts may deliver predetermined returns if all underlying assets meet specified levels on observation dates. Otherwise, they may provide enhanced upside participation at maturity based on the worst-performing asset. Downside barriers seek to mitigate losses, but investors face the full decline of the worst-performing asset if a barrier is breached at maturity. The laddered structure aims to diversify timing risk by rolling contracts across different maturities. Key terms, including return multipliers, barriers, contract durations, ticker and fees, remain undisclosed.
