Synera Funds has launched the Synera Funds Takumi+ ETF (SMTJ), combining actively managed Japanese equities with systematic managed futures. The launch follows the establishment of Synera as a collaborative ETF platform bringing together SuMi TRUST, Millburn Ridgefield and Twin Oak ETF Company. SMTJ expects to allocate 80%–100% of assets to Japanese equities and equity-related instruments, with up to 20% in its futures portion. Twin Oak manages the equity portion using a model portfolio from Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Asset Management Americas, selecting companies benefiting from structural changes whose long-term earnings potential appears undervalued. The futures strategy takes long and short positions across currencies, interest rates, equity indices and commodities, seeking positive absolute returns with low correlation to traditional portfolios. Derivatives add leverage, meaning notional exposure can exceed the capital allocated.
